It’s all in the name…

I’ve always been intentional about naming things of importance in my life. I spend hours and hours pouring through names, their origins, and their meaning for my children, my pets, and yes even inanimate objects like cars and homes. But when it came time to name our property on St. Simons Island, GA, there were very few options that made my short list. After I had done time to marinate on the possibilities, and after asking my village to cast their votes, there was a clear winner, The Davis.

If you grew up with me in our sleepy little island then you already know the significance. If not, let me share.

Having deep roots in the south, my mothers family vacationed on the island when she was a small child. The cutest little cottage you ever did see right by the #SSIlighthouse. She always dreamed of calling it her home and that she did when my late step-father, Dr. Robert S. Davis moved our family there to open his practice when my first memories in life were first being formed.

I can’t imagine my life had I not had his loving influence or the unique influence of the island imprinted on me. And all who knew him and his permanent smile including the families of the approximately 15,000 babies he lovingly delivered into this world, knew how special he was. He longed to share God’s love with others, along with many a joke, tall tale, or the crazy stories of his medical journey and childhood. You couldn’t help but to feel special in his presence, which is exactly how we want our guests to feel. You are known, you are important, and your experiences matter to us.
